Ministry to the Sick: Rev. Popovici will make visits to the sick on the first Friday of the month. It is the responsibility of an immediate family member to kindly notify Rev. Popovici at the Rectory office about any sick or aged individual who is hospitalized or confined at home or in a nursing home, and he will gladly visit and bring the sacraments. In case of emergencies please call any time.

Rosary: The Apostleship of Prayer and Rosary Society request members and parishioners to pray the Rosary on the First Sunday of each month, 20 minutes before Divine Liturgy.

Mothers in Prayer: Next prayer group will be held on Sunday February 12, 2012 at 12:00 p.m.

a. Dear Parishioners: Our Prosphora (end of the Christmas season) Luncheon will be held today January 29, 2012 after the 10 a.m. Ukrainian Divine Liturgy. Admission will be $6.00 per person. Please come to bring an end to the Christmas season as a parish family.

b. Dear Parishioners, we would like to invite you to take part in our Annual Parish Council meeting which will be held on Tuesday January 31, 2012 at 7:15 p.m. We will discuss important matters at this meeting, please make every effort to attend.

c.This year World Marriage Day Celebration occurs on the 2^nd Sunday of February, February 12, 2012. If you are celebrating your 5^th,10^th, 25^th, etc anniversary let your pastor know. This celebration is in order to recognize and to show our support to those married couples who have faithfully kept their marriage vows – another Respect Life Celebration – that provides a day for each parish to honor them.

3. House Blessings with a special Prayer: Those parishioners who wish to have their homes blessed after Epiphany, kindly telephone Father Nicolae at (631) 225-1168 to schedule a date and time no later than February 15, 2012.

4. We have pyrohy for sale: with potatoes, meat and kapusta (onions included- separately) – a dozen is $6.00. All proceeds go to our Church. This is a Fund Raiser.

5. CALLING ALL VOLUNTEERS! Our church needs a person who will daily open the church, ensure the heat is running, check/replace used candles, etc. Fr. Popovici must devote his time to prayer and priestly duties. Please speak to Fr. Popovici if you feel the calling to help your Church.

THE DIVINE LITURGY At the Last Supper, Our Savior, Jesus Christ, instituted the greatest act of Christian public worship: The Holy Eucharist through which we commune with the Precious Body and Most-Pure Blood of Christ. Eastern Christian theologians have called Communion the "medicine of immortality, the antidote to death”. This Holy Mystery provides the believer with the most intimate contact with God that he may have. Christ taught us: "Whoever eats my flesh and drinks my blood lives in me, and I in him." (John 6:56). Because God created humanity in His image and likeness, there can be nothing more natural for a human being to do than to enter into this type of intimate contact with the Lord. Eastern Catholicism acknowledges the necessity of making Holy Communion an integral part of one's life by offering it every Sunday (even more often during Great Lent), and on Holy Feast Days during the year, through one of three Divine Liturgies. The Divine Liturgy of Pre- sanctified Gifts The Divine Liturgy of St. Basil the Great The Divine Liturgy of St. John Chrisostom The Liturgy celebrated least frequently is the Divine Liturgy of Pre-sanctified Gifts. The Church celebrates this Liturgy on all Wednesdays and Fridays of Great Lent, and from Monday to Wednesday of Holy Week (that is, the week before Easter). The Liturgy is called Pre-sanctified, because the Eucharistic Gifts, the Bread and Wine, are consecrated into the Body and Blood of Christ during celebration of the Divine Liturgy on the Sunday before the service. The Church serves the Divine Liturgy of St. Basil the Great ten times during the Church year, including the Sundays of Great Lent, and the Feast Day of St. Basil. This Liturgy is a condensed and modified version of a much older service, the Divine Liturgy of St. James, Bishop of Jerusalem (late first, early second century), which was about five hours long. The most commonly served Divine Liturgy in the Eastern Church is that of St. John Chrisostom. At first, this Liturgy may seem identical to St. Basil's; however, one will find major differences in these services in the prayers that the priest reads (in St. Basil's Liturgy the majority of these prayers are longer than the ones in St. John's Liturgy). The "theology" of the Divine Liturgy is one of spiritual ascent.

Ісус Христос – Правдива Жертва

Нова жертва – це реальна річ: Настав день “Празник Благовіщення”. Бог послав Ангела до Пресвятої Діви Марії, щоб запитати про її згоду стати Матір’ю Спасителя, Відкупителя світу. Якою ж була її відповідь? Бог не примушує розумну істоту. Творіння було зачарованим. Тоді прозвучала відповідь: “Ось, я – Слуга Господня, нехай станеться зі мною згідно слів Твоїх” (Лк. 1, 38). Тоді, вібулося зачаття Сина Божого, Бого-Чоловіка Ісуса в утробі Марії. Бог прийняв на себе людське тіло. Вічність ввійшла в час. Почалася довга подорож на землі, яка закінчиться на горі Голгофті. Ісус, Бого-чоловік проповідує три роки про Своє Нове Царство, яке є як на небі так і на землі, і яке є призначене для нової людини, що володіє життям людським та божественним. Житель двох світів, неба і землі. Ось це привело до Його засудження і Голгофти. Там був Христос роздягнений із свого одягу і коронований терням. Жертва почалася. Агнець Божий, так як називався Ісус принісся у жертву. Ісус був справжнім Агнцем принесеним у жертву. Жертовник був приготованим, але він не був золотим, як в Старому Завіті, ним був важкий хрест. Священик? Так, він був потрібним. Хто б інший був достойним принести цю велику жертву Сина Божого, ніж Ісус, Бого-Чоловік? Він – священик і жертва водночас. Справді, Bін своїми руками принесе жертву, але Він – вічний священик принесе себе у жертву. Вони прибили Його до хреста, пробили Йог руки і ноги цвяхами та піднесли Його високо на вівтарі хреста. Його жертва об’єднає небо і землю, стане драбиною, яка піднесе нас до неба. Замість необхідних літургійних жертовних молитов Він чув прокльони та нарікання грішників. Він бере на Себе гріхи світу. Він дрижить. Ісус приймає покарання, залишення Богом, яке грішники затягли на себе. Його друзі залишили Його, і зараз Його Небесний Отець залишає Його. “Мій Боже, мій Боже, чому ти Мене залишив?” (Мр. 15, 34). Що страшнішого може бути від залишення Богом? Це є найбільшим терпінням, коли сама любов тебе покидає. Він висів на дереві. Вони не могли вбити Його. Ніхто не міг вбити Бога. Він помер із своєї власної свобідної волі. “Ніхто не може взяти мого життя від мене, але я покладу його сам за мої вівці”. (Ів. 10, 11-18). Він був Первосвящеником, Він віддав Себе Богові Отцеві. Він помер лише тоді, коли Він дав своїй душі дозвіл залишити Його тіло. “Отче, у руки Твої віддаю духа мого” (Лк. 23, 46). “ Звершилося” (Ів. 19, 30). Його душа залишила Його тіло. Жерт

ва звершилася. Він сказав, що це звершилося.

Many have described the atmosphere at a Liturgy as "Heaven on earth"; however, this is not quite correct. Heaven came down to earth when the Son of God became man. Now, because of Christ's Resurrection and Ascension into Heaven, the Kingdom of God does not come down to earth; instead, earth has the potential of being raised up to Heaven. For the person who is willing to open his heart and soul to the spiritual dynamics of the Divine Liturgy, this mystical ascension is a very real event. Like the steps of a stairway, or rungs of a ladder, every litany, every hymn, every prayer and Scripture passage of the service takes us one step closer to the Heavenly Kingdom. We begin our spiritual ascent by singing the earthly hymns found in the Old Testament Psalms, and soon we join the choirs of Angels and Saints in their heavenly "Thrice Holy Hymn" of praise to the Lord. Eventually, we will ask that God, our Lord and Creator, accept us as His children and allow us to call upon Him as "Our Father." We then conclude our spiritual journey to God's Holy Domain in the Liturgy by approaching Christ Himself, the King of Kings, and partaking of His Precious Body and Blood. In this way, we unite ourselves with Him, and become heirs to His Kingdom. Worshippers must understand that they are not simply an audience. As we read the prayers and hymns of the service, we will find two words repeatedly appearing, "WE" and "US": “Let us pray to the Lord", "We praise Thee. We bless Thee." The prayers of the Divine Liturgy are our prayers; unless we actively participate in them, the mystical gifts, which the Liturgy offers, are ineffective for us subjectively. "Active participation" means being aware of what is taking place during the service while we sing, read, serve with the priest, or simply stand and pray the Liturgy in the silence of our hearts. Active participation means praying to God when we hear the call "Let us pray to the Lord," paying attention upon hearing, "Let us be attentive," and making the effort sincerely to “lay aside all cares of life” as we sing the Cherubic Hymn. Most of all, active participation means being prepared to complete the Liturgical journey; that is, it means being ready to come forth and receive the Body and Blood of our Lord and Savior Jesus Christ when we hear the call, "With fear of God, with faith and love draw near." The Holy Liturgy is structured such that the Eucharist, Communion with Christ, is its apex, its climax. Without participating in the Eucharist our spiritual journey ends without reaching its destination. Our participation in this great and awesome event is incomplete. The Divine Liturgy’s Structure

‘The Divine Liturgy of St. John Chrisostom is composed of three sections. I) The Liturgy of Oblation 2) the Liturgy of Catechumens 3) the Liturgy of the Faithful Of these three sections, the second and third are most familiar; they contain the dialogue between priest and laity. The first occurs on the Proskomydia table in the left hand corner of the Sanctuary. It is only after it concludes that the priest opens the Royal Doors and begins the Liturgy of the Catechumens.

Тут здійснився акт найвищої любові у світі. Не любов людини до людини, але Бога до людини. Тут відбувся найвищий викуп у світі. “ Ви були відкуплені не сріблом чи золотом” (Петро 1, 18) але найбільшою і єдиною вічною Жертвою у світі. Вартість чи сила Старозавітніх жертв полягала у тому, що вони були прообразом жертви на Голгофті. Ці жертви отримали вартість від хреста.

Завершення Старозавітніх жертв: Коли Ісус здійснив свою жертву на хресті, завіса у храмі в Єрусалимі розірвалася перед Святая Святих (Мр. 15, 38). Це вказувало на те, що Старий Завіт з усіма Його різними жертвами закінчився. Тут ми маємо цінну жертву Бога-Сина, яка виконує потреби усіх людей, чи це жертва прослави, чи перепрошення за гріхи, чи прохання, чи подяки. Ісус здійснив все це одним вічним жертвуванням себе самого. Він поклоняється, Він дякує, Він прощає, Він просить нового благословення для нас перед Небесним Отцем.

Наслідки вічної жертви: “Felix Culpa”(“щаслива провина”), як Церква називає гріх Адама, який “привів нам люблячого Спасителя”. Якщо б це не відбулося через цей гріх, напевно, ми б ніколи не побачили так яскраво вираженою Божу Любов. Зараз ми є кимось вищим, ніж просто земляни, тому що ми були відкуплені. Ми отримали назад знову Божественне Синівство дане Адамові. Ми є співучасниками Божественної Природи (2 Петра 1, 4). Боже життя протікає у наших жилах. Ми є громадянами двох світів: цього світу та Царства Небесного. Отож, радіймо в Господі. Алилуя.

Роздивімося також, як важливими ми повинні бути в Божих очах, ще як дешево ми продаємо себе гріхові. Дияволові. Гляньмо, яка велика є любов Бога. Як ми відповідаємо на неї? Чи це є односторонній рух? Бог – до нас, але не ми до Бога? Розгляньмо слова, які відносяться до нашого Господа: “ Я був поранений у домі, тих, що полюбили мене” (Захарія, 13, 6). Від заснування світу, ми повинні сказати, що ми були у Божому задумі, Він полюбив нас аж до віддання себе у жертву за нас. Як Він полюбив нас? Чи може хтось порівнятися із Ним у любові до нас?

Свята Євхаристія: Ісус приймає вид хліба і вина: Все має свої межі, крім любові...Любов примусила Бога стати людиною, відкупити та наново об’єднати Бога з людиною. Іншою характеристикою любові є бажання завжди бути із тим, кого ти любиш. Подібно є з Ісусом. Як Він міг перебувати на землі з тими, хто любив Його, щоб Його друзі могли відвідати Його та прийняти Його та, щоб Його вороги не могли розпізнати Його? Якщо Він залишався б як людина, то злі люди продовжували б шукати Його та знову і знову розпинати Його на хресті. Та Він віднайшов спосіб..залишаючись серед нас під видами хліба і вина, у Пресвятій Євхаристії, у Причасті. Друзі прийматимуть Його до свого серця, як поживу для своїх душ, а вороги не зможуть Його побачити, а Він залишиться між своїми друзями.

Бог не запитає

1. Бог не запитає тебе, яким автомобілем їздив, але скільки людей ти підвіз…

2. Бог не запитає тебе, яку площу мав твій дім, а скільки подорожніх ти в ньому прийняв…

3. Бог не запитає тебе, як ти одягався, а запитає, скількох людей ти зодягнув…

4. Бог не запитає тебе скільки грошей ти заробляв, але яким способом…

5. Бог не запитає тебе яку посаду ти займав, але чи ти працював чесно і сумлінно...

6. Бог не запитає тебе, скільки ти мав приятелів, але для кого з них був приятелем ти…

GOD Won't Ask

1. God won't ask what kind of car you drove, he'll ask how many people you drove who didn't have transportation.

2. God won't ask the square footage of your house, he'll ask how many people you welcomed into your home.

3. God won't ask about the clothes you had in your closet, he'll ask how many you helped to clothe.

4. God won't ask what your highest salary was, he'll ask if you compromised your character to obtain it.

1Коли я говорю мовами людськими й ангольськими, та любови не маю, то став я як мідь та дзвінка або бубон гудячий!
2 І коли маю дара пророкувати, і знаю всі таємниці й усе знання, і коли маю всю віру, щоб навіть гори переставляти, та любови не маю, то я ніщо!
3 І коли я роздам усі маєтки свої, і коли я віддам своє тіло на спалення, та любови не маю, то пожитку не матиму жадного!
4 Любов довготерпить, любов милосердствує, не заздрить, любов не величається, не надимається,
5 не поводиться нечемно, не шукає тільки свого, не рветься до гніву, не думає лихого,
6 не радіє з неправди, але тішиться правдою,
7 усе зносить, вірить у все, сподівається всього, усе терпить!
8 Ніколи любов не перестає! Хоч пророцтва й існують, та припиняться, хоч мови існують, замовкнуть, хоч існує знання, та скасується.

Love

1 If I speak with the tongues of men and of angels, but have not love, I am become sounding brass, or a clanging cymbal.
2 And if I have the gift of prophecy, and know all mysteries and all knowledge; and if I have all faith, so as to remove mountains, but have not love, I am nothing.
3 And if I bestow all my goods to feed the poor, and if I give my body to be burned, but have not love, it profiteth me nothing.
